How to Care for Pleco Fish

Make sure to turn on your aquarium light for 8 hours. This is so that your pleco doesn't eat the plant in your aquarium. If you turn your aquarium light off for more than 15 hours, your pleco will eat the plants in your aquarium.

Plecos love to stay near plants, which give them extra food in your aquarium. Plecos also eat algae on the plants which makes them healthy. Plants also give them a hide spot from other fish in your aquarium.

Your aquarium should have a sponge filter or a normal filter. This is so that your water is clean and your pleco is healthy, filters also supply oxygen for your fish. So it's necessary for an aquarium!

• If your filter isn't providing oxygen then you can use an air bubble.

Make sure to add your pleco in an aquarium which have algae or food waste in it. Plecos need small amount of algae or food to survive. If you don't have any algae or food waste, you can feed it algae wafers.

• Algae wafers is algae which can be found in ponds, Don't add too much of algae or algae wafers.

Your aquarium should not be crowded. Otherwise, it will result in too much food waste, which is harmful to your fish. It may cause ammonia poisoning in your tank.

• If your fish have ammonia, Change your aquarium water and don't feed your fish for 1 day.
• You can only add one pleco. Never add two plecos together because one pleco will chase another and even end up dying.

Plecos eat algae or food wastes in your aquarium. However, it also needs some other food such as carrots, cucumbers, and zucchini. You can feed any of these items once a week.

• To feed them, take a stick. Take the slice of your vegetable and insert the stick to the slice. Put that in your aquarium. Your pleco will eat the vegetable after some time. You could also feed them algae wafers.

You may notice your fish turn white when you add them to the aquarium. The reason for it to change its color is that your Pleco is stressed, though you don't need to worry about it, the color will change back to the normal color when it feels relaxed, If your fish didn't change back to its normal colour, you need to turn off your aquarium light.

• Your pleco will be stressed if you are making movements in your aquarium.

You need to change 30% of your aquarium water at least once a week. This removes food waste from the aquarium and makes your fish healthy. Changing water removes ammonia from your aquarium.

• While changing the water, you should also clean your filter.
