How to Breed Rare Dragons on Dragonvale

Dragonvale is all about breeding dragons to obtain new and unique monsters. There are lots of dragons that require special combinations and a fair amount of luck to obtain. These are referred to as "Rare Dragons", and there are several varieties of them.

Part 1

Part 1 of 5:
Breeding Dragons

Understand the breeding process. In order to breed dragons, you will need to have unlocked the Breeding Island or Breeding Cave. This is where you can send two dragons to breed and produce an egg. The egg will need to incubate for a certain amount of time before it hatches, depending on the breed the egg contains.

Select two dragons to breed. When you select two dragons to breed, the game will calculate what dragon you receive based on certain odds. Generally, there are three types of results you can expect from a breeding: Common, Rare, and Epic. The one you get is purely chance-based, and Rares and Epics have very low percentages.

Breed lesser dragons to get the best dragons. The rarest dragons are bred from combinations of previous, lesser dragons. You will need to go through several breeding processes before you have the right dragons to breed the super rare ones.

Wait for the egg to hatch. The rarest dragons can take a very long time to hatch, but once you see that long incubation time you'll know that you have something good on your hands.

There are many different rare dragons, but to get rainbow or double rainbow dragons, you have to use 4 of the elements fire, water, earth and air, or dark, light, metal, lightning. Longer breeding and incubating times means a better dragon, and you need a rainbow habitat for them.

You can breed cold and earth for an Arctic or Mountain dragon, then breed a fire hybrid for a different way to get a cyclops dragon.

Breed 2 hybrids, each with different elements, like swamp/storm, as swamp dragons are water/plant hybrids, and storm dragons are cold/lightning hybrids. Examples you could try are mountain/ash, quake/ice, and so on. For better chances at epic and rare dragons, try using 2 hybrid dragons of level 11 and up.
