Bramley apples are a common apple found in Britain. They're ideal for baking whole and for turning into sliced baked apple desserts or used as a sauce.[1]

Ingredients

  • 4 Bramley apples, (or as many as you wish to bake but the ingredient amounts provided are for 4, so change the ratios as required)
  • 2 tablespoons soft brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of sultanas or raisins
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • A small amount of butter

Steps

  1. 1
Choose Bramley apples that are of a similar size. This ensures that they won't bake at a different pace.
  2. 2
Wash the apples. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  3. 3
Core each Bramley apple. Use either an apple corer or a sharp knife. Widen the hole to about halfway with a sharp knife.
  4. 4
Preheat the oven to 190ºC/350ºF. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  5. 5
Mix the filling. Put the sugar, sultanas/raisins and cinnamon into a bowl and stir together.
  6. 6
Spoon even amounts of the filling into each of the four apples.
  7. 7
Arrange across the lined baking tray. The apples should sit upright.
  8. 8
Add a small amount of butter to the top of each stuffed Bramley apple.
  9. 9
Place in the preheated oven. Bake for half an hour to 40 minutes, or until done. The nature of this apple is to break down a lot when cooked, so when it's soft, it is ready for eating.
  10. 10
Remove from the oven. Serve immediately. Add cream, ice cream or another favorite sweet condiment.
