This article explains how to attach door numbers to a front door. The article covers both screwed-on numbers and adhesive numbers - both of which should be readily available at your local hardware store.
Steps
-
1Select the preferred number attachment type. You can choose between screw-on or adhesive numbers. It is a good idea to match them with other fittings already on the door, such as the doorknob and a postal flap.
-
2Mark the position. You can fit the door numbers anywhere you like, but it is standard to fit them in the centre of the door, halfway between the (Yale) lock and the top of the door.
- It is recommended to measure the distance between the lock and the top of the door. From this point, mark the halfway point, then find the horizontal centre point of the door and make a mark where the two points cross.

Method 1 of 2:Screw-on door numbers
Method 1

1Hold the number in position just to the right of the pencil mark and mark through the screw holes with the pencil.
-
2Select a narrow drill bit which matches the width of the screws. Attach it to the drill.
-
3Drill a pilot hole on each of the screw hole pencil marks. Hold the number in position.
-
4Insert the screws into the holes.
-
5Use a screwdriver to screw them into position.Advertisement

A self-adhesive door number is extremely easy to attach but be careful - you only get one chance to stick it on! If you do make a mistake, it is likely that you will need to reapply paintwork as well as removing the number.
-
1Make sure that the area of the door is thoroughly clean.
-
2Find the position for the number and mark it as described above, only you will need to make marks at the side of the number, rather than through holes.
-
3Peel off the backing.
-
4Align the number with the mark that you have made, and stick with care.Advertisement
