This wikiHow teaches you how to use a personal email address (or any email address other than your Apple ID email) as your FaceTime contact ID.
Steps

1Open your iPhone's Settings. This is the grey gear on the Home Screen.

2Scroll down and tap FaceTime. It's in the fifth group of options.

3Tap Add An Email. If you've added an email address to FaceTime before, this will say Add Another Email.

4Type in your Apple ID email address and password. This is to verify your identity.

5Tap Sign In.

6Tap Add An Email again. You can type your preferred email address in.

7Type in your email address. This can be any email address that isn't currently registered as an Apple ID email address.

8Tap Return. You should see the word "Verifying" next to your entered email address.

9Open the email address you entered. You'll need to verify your account from here.

10Select the email from Apple. It's entitled "Verify your email address."
- Be sure to check your Spam folder (and your Updates folder if you use Gmail) if the email still isn't here after a few minutes.

11Select the Verify Now link. It's in the body of the email.

12Enter your Apple ID and password again. Once you hit Return, your selected email address will be added to the list of addresses at which you can be contacted through FaceTime.
